Camping at Wisconsin’s Mirror Lake State Park

Mirror Lake State ParkOn our way to Voyageurs National Park, we spent a beautiful summer evening camping in Mirror Lake State Park. Admission to Wisconsin State Parks require a car sticker and both annual and daily rates are available.(Click here for more information.) We payed the daily rate since we were just passing through. While there are some smallish sites, there are also many large wooded camping spots to choose from.  Divided into three loops, Sandstone, Cliffwood and Bluewater, we picked a campsite in the Cliffwood loop. We hopped in our tents early to get away from the mosquitoes, but did spend a pleasant morning on a trail run combining the Echo Rock and Ishnala trails.  The scenery was quite beautiful and the ideal place for a morning run. With more time, I would have loved to rent a canoe at the marina to explore more of the park. Pleasant campsites, beautiful trails and clean bathrooms with showers, Mirror Lake is a nice camping location. It is also close to the tourist mecca of Wisconsin Dells so would make a cheap home base for those attractions as well as a welcome respite from that craziness.

If you go:

Be very careful if you go walking into the wooded areas around sites.  We saw abundant poison ivy.

Dogs are welcome, but must stay on leash.

Bring Citronella Candles and bug spray.  The mosquitoes were brutal.

If you are sensitive to sounds, you may want to bring ear plugs.  You can hear the highway off in the distance from the park.

Firewood is available for purchase at the camp host.
