Adventure Van Travels – Rainy Night in Channel Islands

We were out on a hike to Potato Harbor yesterday evening to watch the sunset and look for whales when mist flowed over us, almost like a living thing. The whole ocean was concealed, and by the time we made it back to our campsite, it had started drizzling so we made it an early night and tucked into our tents.  It drizzled all night long and the mist continued until late in the morning today. After packing up camp, we hung out in Scorpion Cove for the day while we waited for our Island Packers shuttle back to Ventura. Once the weather cleared we hiked a bit, snorkeled and picnicked the day away.   The sky was clear and the sun was bright when we left Santa Cruz for the mainland. And our trip back was absolutely amazing as we saw a school of dolphin, California sea lions, several humpback whales and a blue whale. I took pictures with my real camera, so will have to share those later. We all were so excited!  Once back in the van, we headed to In&Out Burger for a post camping trip gorge fest of burgers, fries and milk shakes. It was as delicious as I remembered.  We are ending the day in Pismo Beach State Park to camp on the beach. We are exhausted but happy and full of good memories of Channel Islands. Tomorrow we are heading up the Pacific Coast Highway to Big Sur.  Happy Travels!
