Adventure Van Travels- Going to the Sun Road in Glacier National Park

The weather was sunny and warm when we woke up in St. Mary. A perfect day for the Going to the Sun Road! And the kids and I also made a change of plans. We originally had thought we would head east towards home through Canada after visiting Glacier. But not being able to talk to Dave everyday because of international roaming fees was awful, so we decided to head east through the states.We spread out our map and the kids picked the route they most wanted to see. So now we are headed south through Idaho. We will stop at Craters of the Moon National Monument which we’ve always wanted to visit, and then continue on to Arches National Patk near Moab and climb some mountains in Colorado before our final push towards home. Sounds good to me!  But today we were getting to drive one of our favorite routes and see the beautiful sites along the Going to the Sun Road.And it didn’t disappoint. Glacier is a stunning park, and this road is unbelievable in the views it takes you to straight from your car. I LOVE that people of all abilities and ages can see the grand vistas of the Montana wilderness. You can even take a tour on one of the signature red touring cars if you don’t want to drive yourself or you have a large vehicle.That being said, it was crowded! I didn’t have too much trouble pulling off for picture stops, but the parking lot at Logan Pass was full. So while the weather prevented us from hiking to Hidden Lake the day before, the crowds did today. Oh well, we can do it on another visit.We took our time driving, stopping for every picture stop we wanted- Which were many! Like I said, the scenery is amazing. It was relaxing and fun and we really enjoyed it. The Going to the Sun Road drive should be on everyone’s bucket list. Before we knew it, we arrived at West Glacier and headed south to Idaho. Another bittersweet goodbye to a beautiful National Park.
