When researching our trip, I was happy to learn about free camping in Badlands National Park at Sage Creek Campground. And I was even happier to camp at Sage Creek when we arrived and looked around. This place is fantastic!Sage Creek Campground Free Camping In Badlands National ParkLocated in the north unit of Badlands National Park, before heading to Sage Creek Campground, we visited Wall Drug where we drank our fill of 5 cent coffee and snacked on donuts before looking around the gigantic store/tourist mecca where we stocked up on supplies. After we had our caffeine fix, we headed into the park. Driving the desolate Sage Creek Rim Road into the campground is part of the fun. We only saw one other car as we passed herds of bison and sprawling prairie dog towns on the scenic winding dirt road.Free Camping In Badlands National ParkSage Creek Campground Free Camping In Badlands National ParkThe campground itself is somewhat like a gypsy village with a circular drive surrounding a large grassy camping area where you can pitch your tent wherever you’d like or camp in your vehicle in the drive. Campers were spread out in tents, truck campers, camper vans and even RVs. Sheltered picnic areas and tables dot the campground and we snagged one to cook dinner.Sage Creek Campground Free Camping in Badlands National ParkFree Camping In Badlands National ParkWe spent our time hiking the nearby trails, ogling at the bison wandering through our camp, and relaxing in the sun. I loved the laid back feel of this campground. People were just hanging out enjoying the day, hiking, strumming guitars, reading and taking pictures. I will definitely stay here again the next time I am in the Badlands. Free Camping In Badlands National ParkSage Creek Campground Free Camping In Badlands National Park
