Family Backpacking 101- Everything You Need to Know to Start Backpacking

Family Backpacking 101Family backpacking is my absolutely favorite way to travel and explore and I find the places that we have camped overnight are the destinations I hold the most memorable and special. Call me sentimental, but there is something about being immersed in a location throughout the rising and setting sun that allows me to better understand my place in the world. The first time I went on a backpacking trip, I was a young teenager attending summer camp in North Carolina.  A local man, who was an avid hiker, took a group of us for an overnight on the Appalachian Trail.  Having never backpacked before, I had no idea of what to expect, but after that trip I was hooked. I will be forever grateful to him for introducing me to what is now an integral part of my life. If you’ve never taken a wilderness backpacking trip before, figuring out all of the logistics can be intimidating but it doesn’t need to be. With a little organization, planning an outdoors backpacking adventure for your family is simple and the memories you will make will last a lifetime.  The following links will cover the basics for planning a family backpacking trip and I hope you will find exploring this way as special as I do.  Happy Travels!
