Adventure Van Travels – Things Go Wrong in Mt. Rainier

Three things I’ve learned in the gorgeous state of Washington- 1. It rains. A lot! 2. Internet access is spotty at best and 3. Stomach viruses suck.adventure vanadventure vanadventure vanIt was chilly and gloomy when we arrived at Mt. Rainier, but the visitor center was bustling. We also picked up backpacking permits for a two night loop from Mowich Lake. Wilderness permits are free here which is awesome! After dinner and a game of frisbee we were off to bed with the sun so we could get an early start the next day.adventure vanadventure vanBut poor Maya woke up sick with a stomach virus in the middle of the night and her and I didn’t get much sleep after that. Since she wasn’t up to hard hiking, we changed our plan. We still headed to Mowich Lake, a couple of hours away. But Maya and I hung out at the campground there, while Dave took the other kids backpacking. Since Maya was feeling better by the time we arrived, it was a win for all of us! Lemonade out of lemons for sure.adventure vanadventure vanadventure vanadventure vanAnd Mowich Lake is beautiful! And also free to camp here, another win! So off went Dave and all of the others, and Maya and I took a short walk around the lake and took it easy the rest of the day. It was really great to spend time alone with her, since alone time is a major luxury when you are 6 people living in a van. adventure vanadventure vanadventure vanadventure vanTomorrow I will tell you about our two days in Mowich Lake and the gorgeous hikes that start there. And the weather finally improved too! Happy Travels.
